◦ The DFA permit system
No tag, no entry. Chicago is strict about this.
The Chicago Park District runs Dog Friendly Areas (DFAs) on a permit system. Every dog must have a valid DFA tag affixed to the collar, which requires: current rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella vaccinations, plus a veterinary stool sample showing no parasites within the last 12 months. The annual permit is $5 per dog.
Without the tag, you cannot legally enter any DFA. Enforcement is real: Park District employees and Animal Care and Control check, especially at the busier sites like Montrose and Wicker Park. The $5 is the cheapest insurance against a citation.
