Privacy Policy.
OffLeashMap is a directory of off-leash dog parks. We try to collect as little personal information as possible. This page explains what we do collect, why, and how to opt out.
Who runs this site
OffLeashMap (the "Site") is independently operated. For anything in this policy, contact us at hello@offleashmap.com.
What we collect
1. Usage analytics
We use Plausible Analytics to measure how many people visit the Site, which pages they read, and which countries they connect from. Plausible is a privacy-friendly service that does not use cookies, does not track individuals, and does not collect IP addresses in identifiable form. Aggregate data only.
2. Advertising cookies (Google AdSense)
We show ads on some pages via Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other sites. You can opt out of personalized advertising at google.com/settings/ads or visit aboutads.info to opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized ads.
3. Map and image hosting
Map embeds are served by Mapbox; images may be served by Vercel (our hosting provider) or Cloudflare. These services log standard request data (IP address, user agent) to deliver and secure the content. We do not have access to that data in identifiable form.
4. Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links — for pet insurance carriers (Lemonade, Spot, Fetch, Trupanion), pet retailers (Chewy, Amazon), and similar partners. When you click through and make a purchase, we may receive a commission at no cost to you. These third parties may set their own cookies; their privacy policies apply once you leave OffLeashMap.
5. Email contact
If you email us at hello@offleashmap.com, we keep that correspondence so we can respond and so we can remember context if you contact us again. We do not share email content with third parties except where legally required.
6. Featured listings (paying businesses)
Local dog-adjacent businesses (daycares, trainers, groomers, vets) can pay for a featured listing on a city page. We collect the business name, contact email, payment information (via Stripe — we never see your full card details), and a short description. This data is used only to administer the listing and bill for it.
What we do not collect
- We do not run a user account system. You do not sign up to read OffLeashMap.
- We do not track your location.
- We do not sell or rent data to third parties.
- We do not use your data to train AI or machine-learning models.
Cookies — the short version
OffLeashMap itself does not set cookies. Cookies you may encounter come from third-party services we use:
- Google AdSense — for ad personalization. Opt out at google.com/settings/ads.
- Stripe — only set when you go through a payment flow for a featured listing.
If you have not interacted with ads or made a payment, your visit is essentially cookie-free.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have specific rights under the EU GDPR, UK GDPR, California CCPA/CPRA, or similar laws:
- The right to know what data we hold about you.
- The right to request correction or deletion.
- The right to opt out of advertising cookies.
- The right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these, email hello@offleashmap.com. We respond within 30 days.
Children's privacy
OffLeashMap is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn we have, we delete it.
Data retention
Email correspondence is kept indefinitely so we can maintain context. Featured listing records are kept for as long as the listing is active and up to 7 years after for tax purposes. Analytics data via Plausible is aggregated and not tied to individuals.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy in a meaningful way, we update the "Last updated" date at the top and announce material changes on the Site. Minor wording changes are made silently.
This page is a plain-English explanation of our practices, not a legal contract. For binding terms, see our Terms of Service.
