Dog park hours across America
Portland keeps its off-leash parks open 19 hours a day. In Miami they shut after 12. We read the published hours of 862 off-leash dog parks across 58 US cities to find out how much of the day a dog owner actually gets.

The national picture
The typical American off-leash dog park opens at 6am and closes at 9pm, a 15 hour day. The spread between cities is wide: Portland gives owners 7 more hours a day than Miami, which decides whether someone working full time can use a park on a weekday at all.

Method, and what this does not cover
Opening hours as published on each park's Google listing, one representative weekday window per park, median across the parks we list in each city. Cities with fewer than five parks carrying hours are excluded. Parks open 24 hours are counted separately rather than averaged into the window.
This covers the parks offleashmap lists, not every off-leash area in each city.
Opening hours are not the same as leash rules. Several cities run posted off-leash windows inside otherwise on-leash parks, which this study treats as the park's hours. Our state leash law pages cover that separately.
